SMA Awareness
HAPPY HUMP DAY! TIme to cruise into the latter part of the week!
We are in a new month and therefore having a host of new health awareness observances. We would like to highlight Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Awareness Month. Like all other awareness efforts, they are on-going year round. But August is the time to spotlight these efforts. SMA is a genetic disorder that affects voluntary muscle movement. PTs and OTs have a role in the treatment/maintenance of this disease. SLPs play a role if there are swallowing issues due to weakness in the mouth and throat muscles. For more specific info on this disease go to http://www.curesma.org/. Lets continue to educate ourselves so that we can educate others.
