Now it's time to talk about following your treatment plan! When you begin your Physical Therapy, you will talk with your PT about your goals, the doctor's recommendations and the PT's recommendations. You will discuss your diagnosis, history, pain levels etc.
Next it's up to you. You will have a Plan of Care that you and the PT agree on, the direction/assistance of the PT, and the equipment/supplies that you need to carry out your Plan of Care. Note that not all injuires are the same for every person. And every person's response to injury isn't the same. Don't fall into the trap of comparing yourself with others, even if you have the same or similar injuries.
Your Physical Therapist may not only direct you in what TO do, but will probably direct you in what NOT to do as well. If you don't follow instructions, the potential for injury increases. And by not following the Treatment Plan, you may not stay on track toward your goals as you had planned.
If you follow the plan, you will be on the road to a healthier, stronger you! Plan your discharge as well. Make sure to keep the PT updated on your status. The two of you can then plan a smooth discharge with home exercises if applicable. But if you just stop therapy, your PT can't fully gage your progress or help you with a Home Excercise Program.
Remember to keep your eyes on the prize and commit to the process! #painfree
