March 14-20, 2022 is Brain Awareness Week
Why would we want to address this at a Physical Therapy Clinic? Well, some may not realize that we work with Brain Injuries on a regular basis in Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy.
Even though someone may come in for a stroke to get help with walking, using their arm, swallowing etc, it stems from an injury to the brain.
A person may also come in after a car, bike, or other accident where they receive a TBI, or Traumatic Brain Injury. This type of injury can also affect walking, talking, cognition etc.
In Physical Therapy, your therapist will work on not only the physical aspects, but also on retraining your brain to help your body do what it used to do.
The Speech Therapist can address multiple issues that could arise from a brain injury. This could include: speaking, memory problems, and swallowing issues to name a few.
We receive referrals from hospitals and in-patient rehabs to continue therapies on an out-patient level. We also get calls from individuals weeks, months and even years after their injury to get therapy.
If you have any questions about how we can help you, give us a call at 225-644-0290.
